Today, the 22nd of September, marks the Autumn Equinox, when day and night are of equal length (equi meaning equal, and nox meaning night.)
We also had our first frost here in Padiham, so I think we can confidently say that autumn has arrived.
As it was such a nice dawn and I was up early I decided to walk up to the canal which is just up the road from us.
It was one of those magical mornings where mist danced ethereally in the dips of the land and over the still waters, and frost sparkled on the leaves, cobwebs and Haw-berries. So I took a few videos and photos to capture this magic and decided to piece them together with a suitable track.
I chose Autumn, a poem by the English poet Walter de la Mare and performed here by the excellent folk group The Lancashire Hustlers, as it is apt in several ways, not just in name, reflecting the melancholy feeling one has when it transpires that summer has flown south.
I hope you enjoy it!
