The time a Dominatrix called Miss Whiplash stood for Ribble Valley MP

Miss Whiplash

Miss Whiplash, otherwise known as Lindi St-Clair, (real name Marian June Akin) is an interesting character, to say that she has led an eventful life would be an understatement, she was internationally infamous as the Madam of a well known London brothel, a Dominatrix and for standing as MP for the Ribble Valley as leader of the Correction Party in 1991.

Corrective Policies

Biker gangs, celebrities and politicians

She was born in Hackney in London and spent her childhood there hanging out with mods, rockers, bikers and in particular members of the local Hells Angels chapter, before drifting into prostitution. She eventually saved up enough money to buy a brothel in Earls Court and became very well known and liked by the aristocrats, celebrities and politicians that made up her customer base.

She made enough money from her business empire to buy a bright yellow Rolls Royce and a yacht which she kept moored at Bray on the Thames and became a bit of a celebrity herself. At one point she even featured as a guest on Ruby Wax’s tv show and on James Whale’s radio show (12 min 15s in the video after the real-life vampire).

Trials and Tribulations

She did, somewhat surprisingly, pay tax on her earnings, even though she would eventually end up in the high court being tried for tax evasion and ‘immoral earnings’. Various attempts to register several company names, including ‘Prostitutes Ltd’, ‘Hookers Ltd’ and ‘Lindy St-Clair (French Lessons) Ltd’ were all rejected by the Registrar of Companies.

It was in one of these court appearances that she famously stated that the inland revenue were “her majesty’s pimps”. She was declared bankrupt after the trial in 1993.

These trials and tribulations didn’t, however, stop her from forming the Correction Party, which rapidly became one of the fastest growing fringe parties in the U.K., they were a very radical party and campaigned for civil liberties, social justice, animal rights and sexual freedoms. This is their manifesto.

Salacious Secrets

In the same year that she stood as MP for the Ribble valley she was embroiled in an extremely controversial scandal involving the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Norman Lamont. He was investigated for spending taxpayers’ money to cover up press stories concerning Miss Whiplash who was renting a flat he owned to use for her business. The Treasury contributed £4,700 of a £23,000 bill which Mr Lamont submitted and this was officially approved by both the Head of the Civil Service and the Prime Minister at the time John Major.

The publicity surrounding this scandal and Miss Whiplash’s threats to expose the salacious secrets of members of the government, over two hundred of which were reputed to have used her businesses services, helped her cause a great deal but not nearly enough for her to win any seats.

“Sssshhh!”

The Clitheroe Campaign

Whilst campaigning for the seat of the Ribble valley she stayed at the Swan and Royal hotel in Clitheroe and based her political operations from there, the hotel even advertises a ‘Miss Whiplash’ room which you can stay in, along with rooms named after other notaries which have stayed there including Gandhi, Churchill and Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull.

Since then Marian June Akin (she now uses her Christian name) leads a much quieter life as an author, having penned several books including her autobiography ‘It’s Only a Game’. This change in course supposedly occurred after a near death experience when she came off the road in her jeep and ended up stuck upside down in a ditch for 22 hours before being rescued.

‘It’s Only a Game’

Conversion to Christianity

In 2009 she converted to Christianity, much to the surprise of the Bishop who confirmed her, at Stoke Lacy church in Herefordshire.

The winner of the election was conservative Nigel Evans who has remained MP for the Ribble valley ever since, his tenure has not been without scandal though as he ended up defending himself from accusations of sexual misdemeanour, these accusations were proven in court to be unfounded. It will be interesting to see who will stand for Ribble valley MP next time round and whether history will repeat itself again with yet more stories of politician’s sexual shenanigans.

    1. Hmm, kind of see where you’re going there, it’s a strange set of affairs when you know that someone like her would have been infinitely more straight and honest then any of our current lot
